Body Image Attitudes on Campus and How They Affect Students of Color
As diverse as the student body is at Duke, many times the experience of students of color are not fully represented in broader discussions about campus life. Because much of American attitudes about beauty have roots in a social system that promoted white values and ideals, this group is offered for students of all backgrounds to explore and discuss the unique experiences of students of color. Stay tuned for more info on the day and time for this discussion group.
The Market and the Media
As independent-minded and intelligent students, we don’t like to think of how vulnerable we are to the forces of the media and the beauty industry. However, it’s difficult to deny these forces as having an impact on our world. This discussion group explores how we, as individuals, are influenced and how those influences make their way into campus life. Discussion to be held Monday, January 26 at 7p.m. in Room 201 Flowers Building

The Role and Impact of Men’s Attitudes About Beauty On Duke Culture
So often, discussions about body image issues are focused on women. However, not only are men’s attitudes toward women a major factor in the issues raised in tonight’s film, but men’s attitudes toward their own bodies warrants discussion. This group is offered for discussion of how men at Duke make an impact and are impacted by body images issues on campus.
